Rabbits live on hay, not carrots
Rabbits are cute, curious and playful. But some of the things we think we know about them are wrong!
The right diet
Most of a rabbit's food should be hay, and it should always have hay available. A rabbit's teeth grow all its life, and chewing tough hay wears them down naturally. Alongside hay, give leafy greens every day, a little rabbit pellet food and fresh water.
Room to run
A small hutch isn't enough for a rabbit. It needs to run and hop in a safe space every day. Rabbits love to chew, so hide any cables in the room. Living with another rabbit makes them very happy too.
How to hold a rabbit
Never pick up a rabbit by its ears! If you must lift it, put one hand under its chest and the other under its back legs. Most rabbits prefer to be stroked on the floor beside you rather than held. A happy rabbit sometimes leaps into the air and twists — that's called a "binky".
