Metamorphosis

When an animal completely changes its body shape as it grows, like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly or a tadpole becoming a frog.

What is metamorphosis?

Frogs hatch from eggs as tadpoles with tails. Tadpoles live in water and breathe with gills. Over time they grow legs, lose their tails and develop lungs.

Butterflies, bees and ladybirds go through metamorphosis too.
