Hibernation

A long, deep sleep some animals take in the cold months when food is scarce, slowing their bodies right down.

What is hibernation?

During hibernation an animal's heart slows, its breathing drops and its body cools, so it uses very little energy.

To get ready, animals eat a lot in autumn and store fat in their bodies.
